Leevi Haapala is the Museum Director of Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, part of Finnish National Gallery 2015-2024 and will start in April 2024 as a Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Arts in Helsinki. Previously, he has worked as Praxis Professor at Exhibition Studies in the Academy of Fine Arts, 2014-2015 and Curator and Deputy Chief Curator for Collections in the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (2007-2014). Haapala is a member of the editorial team at the FNG Research online publication.   
  
During Haapala’s leadership at Kiasma, the museum has presented numerous solo exhibitions from various artists and two international survey shows; ARS17: “Hello World!” focusing on the digital revolution and artists of the new millennium, expanding experiencing art into the online realm; and ARS22: “Living Encounters” exploring the everyday lives and dreams of individuals and communities.   
  
Haapala is a board member of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art) and a member of the Nordic Committee co-commissioning the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennial. He holds board member seats in  the OP Bank Art Foundation; and Kuntsi Art Foundation. He is a member of the selection board for Ars Fennica Award and for Young Artist of the Year Prize at Tampere Art Museum.
